Cosmetic Dentistry

An entire branch of dentistry is dedicated to enhancing the aesthetics of your smile. Cosmetic dentistry includes various procedures that involve making changes to the existing structure of the teeth, adding dental restorations to their surfaces, and modifying their appearance in a comprehensive manner to give you a more pleasing smile. The best part about cosmetic dentistry is that some procedures not only improve the appearance of your smile but also strengthen the teeth and improve oral functionality.

Common cosmetic dental procedures

  • Teeth whitening:Teeth whitening is the process of removing the stains from the teeth surfaces using a whitening gel, which is essentially a dental bleach. The gel contains hydrogen peroxide, a compound used in most teeth whitening products. The gel liberates oxygen molecules when activated, which enter the porous enamel and bleach the staining particles to give you whiter teeth. The process is quick, convenient, and non-invasive.
  • Dental crowns:Crowns are widely used for various cosmetic treatments, such as restoring broken, naturally misshapen, cracked, or chipped teeth. They are also occasionally used to treat extremely weak or worn-out teeth. Crowns are hollow on the inside, which allows dentists to place them on the teeth and cover them entirely. Since they are made from dental-grade, tooth-colored ceramic material, they can be customized as required to keep them indistinguishable from the adjoining teeth.
  • Veneers:Veneers are a simpler form of dental crowns. They are wafer-thin pieces of porcelain bonded to the teeth using dental adhesives on their frontal surface. Veneers are used in the treatment of cosmetic concerns, such as severely stained, cracked, chipped, misshapen, or excessively spaced teeth, etc. They are known for their simple treatment procedure and less chair time involved.
  • Composite bonding:Composite bonding is the process of applying a tooth-colored, composite resinous material on the teeth to reshape and restore their contour. They are applied to the teeth in multiple layers and hardened using a curing light. Bonding is used to treat cases of chipped, decayed, or misshapen teeth. In some instances, bonding can also be used to cover the exposed surfaces of tooth roots.
  • Gum contouring:Maintaining healthy gums is just as important as taking care of your oral health. The gums may sustain decay or damage due to gum diseases, such as gingivitis, periodontitis, etc. We treat gum diseases by removing the decayed tissues and adhered tartar deposits near the gum line and on the roots. The deep gum pockets will be cleared out to get rid of the food residues and microbes, after which healthy tissues will be grafted to the receded area.
  • Orthodontics: Orthodontic aligners such as braces or Invisalign not only enhance the aesthetics of your smile but also improve the functionality of your mouth. Braces and Invisalign may look completely different in aesthetics, but they work based on the same principle of moving the teeth to their orthodontically right positions by gently applying pressure on them in a controlled manner.
